Donald Trump's mug shot, and did Susan Garcia buy the farm?
An editorial cartoon, an animation, and a Candorville comic strip

In June of 2006, Republican House Majority Leader Tom DeLay was arrested and indicted for laundering money. His shamelessly grinning mug shot looked more like a high school yearbook photo than it did a photo of a disgraced politician. Other politicians followed his example., using their mug shot moment as a way to shape the narrative.
Donald Trump’s had weeks to prepare for his moment. But instead of looking up at
the camera and smiling, Trump looked down, grimaced an gave what the Drudge Report called a “death glare.”
His detractors seem gleeful about the horrible-looking mugshot, but we shouldn’t be. With this tired, haggard-looking mugshot, he’s created an image that might as well be the definitive illustration of furious, white, Christian-Nationalist grievance. It’ll probably be tattooed on hundreds, if not thousands, of white supremacist biceps by Saturday. There will be t-shirts and flags with this image, along with these words from a crazed, fascist speech he delivered months ago: “I am your retribution.”
I’ve said since Biden’s inauguration, the storm wasn’t over. We had just entered the eye of it. I hope we’ve all rested enough over the past couple years, because if the legal system fails to take this guy out, a much bigger fight is coming.
Lately, my wife and I have been browsing homes to buy or rent in other countries, just in case the worst happens (although the way the dominoes are falling, it’s getting harder to find countries that are safe). Maybe we’ll move to the farm Lemont thinks Susan might own.
